Datolite is a calcium hydroxyborosilicate. It is a transparent, colorless stone that rates a 5 on the hardness scale and has a vitreous luster. Colorless and transparent crystals of datolite are only cut for collectors. While datolite stones are mostly colorless, tinges of different colors, often yellow, green, or white, may sometimes be seen. Datolite is commonly found in massive form, and contains copper inclusions. The main source of these massive specimen, is the Lake Superior area of the United States. However, datolite can also be found around the world, in Austria, Italy, Norway, Germany and England.
